Story
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

Money. Whoa what a story it tells.
It's okay that the raunch & the smut & the endless primary focus of the main character, John Self, is laser focused on debauchery. The rapid fire cadence and the self-depreciation of Mr. Self entertains as the plot unfolds. The narrator's reading elevates Martin Amis' novel to a place that had read the book I would have never been able to do. There is so much to revel in the plot, the characters. I will return to this mint of story and realise how much I was not able to take in the first go around. Brilliant debauchery described in a manner that is all at once disgusting and evidences the incredible intellect that Martin Amis wields.

Remarkably bad
The overbearing and irritating narration leaves no room for the listener to imagine the characters, and significantly detracts from the writing. If I'd read this in the 80s, I would have thought it was already dated. in 2024 it has aged very badly, and it's more irksome than farce. It's difficult to believe this is included in the best 100 novels of the last 100 years. Amis wrote far superior books than Money.
