Story
Lou is reeling from a triple whammy of shocks that have left her loveless, jobless and almost homeless. Staying for a night with an old friend in the Cotswold village of Foxwell, she lends a helping hand to a spectacularly ungrateful older man with a reputation in the village for being a 'character'. When Edgar makes a suggestion that would solve two out of three of Lou's problems in one fell swoop, it's hard to resist. Especially as the return to the village of the very attractive Remy—not that he's even noticed Lou!—makes it an unusually appealing place to live.

Story
Holly has the place to herself this Christmas. It’s not her place, though – she is house-sitting for friends who live on Nightingale Square – just there to keep the place warm and cosy and only for long enough for her to sort her life out. Newly single and finding herself unsure about next steps for her career, she plans to hunker down and make some life decisions. To clear her mind, she sets off on early morning walks around a nearby lake and bumps into May, an older lady who is also new to the area, and her dapper Dachshund Monty.

Story
Eve has always lived on Ennisfarne, an idyllic island just off the coast of Northumberland and only accessible when tides are low. There she runs a bar overlooking Darling Cove, a heavenly horseshoe-shaped beach named after her seafaring ancestors, whose links to the Farne Islands stretch back centuries. Logan is a famous photographer desperate to evade the limelight after a difficult break-up. Renting a cottage from Eve, he chooses Ennisfarne in the hope of anonymity but is immediately spellbound by its natural beauty.

Story
The friendship starts with a letter...from aspiring writer Sarah to blunt but witty journalist Helen, complaining about Helen's most recent book review. And there begins a correspondence that blossoms into a friendship which spans over two decades. As the years pass, the women exchange details of loves lost and found, of family joys and upheavals. Sarah's letters filled with thoughts on her outwardly perfect marriage and her aching desire for children, and Helen's on the struggle of raising her young daughter alone.

I enjoyed it
Despite some less than positive reviews, I actually enjoyed this book. Clem was definitely a bit over the top and annoying in the opening scene, but I warmed to her and found the story quite entertaining.
Interesting sub plots kept the story alive as well.
All tied up nicely at the end with a happy ending, so what's not to love!
Always a fan of Imogen Church's talented narration.

my least favourite Jill mansell book and nearly abandoned it several times. I found the narrator really over the top and will avoid books of hers in future.

Characters are so annoying *spoilers*
I am a fan of Jill Mansell, especially her more recent offerings, however this book started with Clem being an annoying travel companion, and ended with her annoying, mean, bitchy step-sister Belle bring redeemed for all her shitty behaviour by coming out as lesbian. It was an uncomfortable listen.
Jill should have focused on Marina rather than her being a character for a sub plot. She was easily the most likeable character.
