Publisher's Summary

A plane crashes on a desert island, and the only survivors, a group of schoolboys, assembles on the beach and waits to be rescued. By day they inhabit a land of bright fantastic birds and dark blue seas, but at night their dreams are haunted by the image of a terrifying beast. As the boys’ delicate sense of order fades, so their childish dreams are transformed into something more primitive and their behaviour starts to take on a murderous, savage significance.

Old memories

Read this when I was a kid. It was good to read it again.

The narration reminded me of old radio broadcasts.
Still a great listen.

Spellbinding reminder of human fragility

A perfectly constructed psychological thriller reminding us of human and animal connection- outstanding and insightful

Disturbing tragedy

The book somehow gives me an indescribable heavy feeling towards the human nature of mankind.

GOOD LOVE IT SO EMERSED

I think the story would have been better if the boys started to eat each other.

2nd Best book for School Assignment

My essay was about the loss of innocence among the boys. Through imagery, symbolism and characterisation. Your welcome

Enjoyable.

I remember this book from over 40 years ago. A little too much ‘describing the scene’ in parts. But this does not deter from the story.
Great narrative, loved the voice used for Piggy.

Sensational reading

I absolutely loved this story and the narration was perfect. I found it very hard to read due to the terror of the situation however; it took me many a month to complete as I had to keep putting it down to digest what was happening. A must read for anyone who loves to consume books.

Never again

I wish I listened to my wife… very much over complicated the story with some twisted words
