Publisher's Summary

I tell you, you meet some strange characters in this game....

Boasting the biggest beats in the world - some as large as France - Australia's outback police have seen it all: natural disasters, incredible acts of selflessness, unspeakable crimes and daring rescues, just to name a few. And they've met some unforgettable characters along the way: from the murderer who stuffed his victims' bodies down wombat holes to the policeman who arrested his own wife to the prisoner who risked his life to rescue his own captor from certain death.

Master storyteller Bill 'Swampy' Marsh has travelled the length and breadth of the country to gather their tales of adventure and misadventure, drama and mayhem, and larrikinism and laughter, to create this memorable collection of real life stories about those on the frontline in the heart of Australia.

Fascinating. More please.

I'd love to meet Swampy. He reads so comfortably as though he just chatting.
Great stories of a wonderful country and fascinating lives. It's like spending time with Henry Lawson.

most of the story's were really good to listen to, but the way they were told and the way the book it set out is really strange. lost interest after a while cause I couldn't keep up with what was a new story.

Great Yarns

Great narrator voice, Bill, for these stories of our past and of the police who had to be jack-of-all-trades in the vast outback of our country. I enjoyed the history of places like Bourke.
I hope poor dead Grandma’s body was eventually found!

Australian outback policing when Aborigines were treated respectfully

This was a refreshing read about life in Outback Australia
before the ugliness of cultural ignorance, population growth and
racism arrived.
Thoroughly enjoyable listen, thank you Bill and Kate :-)

Some wonderful interesting and enlightening stories

I enjoyed the different stories very much but did find some of the narration too put on or too acted but don’t let that deter you from listening

A corker of a read

A wonderful collection of stories, giving insight into the ways policing has changed over the decades, and the ways it's still the same, for better or worse, but mostly for better

It was great to hear all the tales of the way it was and how they dealt with it then.
