Publisher's Summary

Danger in the air. Lovers on the brink.

A Charm of Magpies, Book 3: With the justiciary understaffed, a series of horrifying occult murders to be investigated, and a young student who is flying - literally - off the rails, magical law enforcer Stephen Day is under increasing stress. And his relationship with his aristocratic lover, Lord Crane, is beginning to feel the strain. Crane chafes at the restrictions of England's laws, and there's a worrying development in the blood-and-sex bond he shares with Stephen. A development that makes a sensible man question if they should be together at all.

When a thief strikes at the heart of Crane's home, a devastating loss brings his closest relationships into bitter conflict - especially his relationship with Stephen. And as old enemies, new enemies, and unexpected enemies paint the lovers into a corner, the pressure threatens to tear them apart.

Warning: Contains hot-blooded sex, cold-blooded murder, sinister magical goings-on, and a lot of swearing.

Great supernatural series!

As the magpie lord bond between Lucien and Stephen strengthens and the magic becomes more unpredictable, they rush to solve a spate of robberies and gruesome deaths in this third book in the Charm of Magpies series. Meanwhile, their relationship is becoming less secret, Stephen’s job more untenable, and the idea of living abroad more desirable - the writing seems to be on the wall. I’ve enjoyed KJ Charles’ blend of humour, Victorian manners, mystery, and magical horror - they all work seamlessly together. I’ve also enjoyed the contrasting MCs: Lucien is tall, rich, handsome, and mocking of his reputation as only the very rich can be, whereas Stephen, is short, poor, badly-dressed, and serious about his work and his secrets. The world-build has been strong and I’m glad KJ has written some standalones set in the same world, it would be a shame to leave it and Cornell Collins’ excellent narrations so soon. Bonus points for the generous extra story Feast Of Stephen!
