Publisher's Summary

He is known by many names - Clonelord, Manflayer, Primogenitor. He is the epitome of deceit and perversion, and feared by man and monster alike. Once the Chief Apothecary of the Emperor's Children, the madman known as Fabius Bile possesses a knowledge of genetic manipulation second to none.

Now a renegade among renegades, he is loathed by those he once called brother, and even the most degraded of Chaos Space Marines fear his name. Exiled for his dark experiments, Bile has retreated deep into the Eye of Terror, leaving a trail of twisted abominations in his wake. But when a former student brings word of the ultimate prize for the taking, Bile is unable to resist being drawn once more into the cauldron of war. For in seizing this prize, Fabius Bile might yet discover the one secret his has been unable to unlock...the secret which will prevent his inevitable doom.

Pretty darn good.

Despite his past sins I can't help but admire Fabius and his dogged determination to walk his own path when half the galaxy and even the Gods themselves try to say otherwise.

Despite feeling like the story got a bit slow during Part 2 I still enjoyed it.
Narrator was on point as well.

Exceptional

Great cast of characters in an incredibly engaging story, one I'd thought I'd hate as I've never been interested in the Emperors Children.

A sublime audiobook in many ways.

Loved it, the narrator brought Fabius Bile to life magnificently from beginning to end alongside many of the supporting characters.

one of the best 40k novels out there

perfect atmosphere constantly focusing on the emperors children and the other legion characters has absolutely no random stories within the novel that are most of the time boring to hear when you just wanna hear the arstartes side of things.

Great Introduction to Fabius Bile

As my first 40k book from a Chaos POV, I really enjoyed this one. Bile is a fascinating character, more an amoral antihero than a straight up villain, who the reader will struggle to determine if his brain and perspective is totally Chaos-corrupted, or he is the potential future salvation of mankind.

Found the battle near the end bit long-winded, but some may love it.

Great characters. Fascinating exploration of Bile's world and how Chaos Space Marine navigate the galaxy and each other. An overwhelming theme of regret and lack of guidance to these Traitor Legions makes a great theme to explore.

One of my favourite scenes is them navigating the Eye of Terror with their Warpshield off and dealing with daemons and warp predators. The mundanity of these magic-infused superhumans makes it somewhat hilarious.

8/10 Story. Highly recommended.
9/10 Narration. John Banks once again does Blck Library proud.

Fabius is a great character. the performance is EXCELLENT and it's beautifully written but this book goes nowhere for 18 chapters.
