Story
On an isolated farm in southern Ireland, a decades-old grave houses the dismembered bones of 11 women. Detective Superintendent Katie Maguire of the Irish Gardai is used to bloodshed, but these white bones speak of unimaginable butchery. Not far away, a young American tourist is at the mercy of a sadistic killer. His tools are a boning knife, twine, and a doll fashioned from rags, nails, and fish-hooks. The murder of his victims is secondary only to his pleasure at their pain.

Story
Detective Lauren Pengelly has only been part of the Penzance police force for less than two years, but that’s enough time to know that the sleepy Cornish town doesn’t see many murders. So, when the bones of a woman with a hole in her skull are discovered behind a derelict cottage, she immediately assumes the worst. Rallying her team, Lauren is flooded with a strange sense of relief when the bones turn out to be almost twenty years old, not a recent victim. But it quickly turns to dread when she receives her second heart-stopping call of the day–a little girl, Isla, has been kidnapped.

Sexually explicit and violent
It appears that with each book the story gets more and more violent and sexually explicit - which I suppose might sell but does not provide quality to the writing. Great shame.

Honestly took a while to get into it after the 1st
This book took quite a while to get into after the 1st chapter.
I really wasn't a fan of the narrator, she obviously hadn't listened to the other books, her pronunciation of some of the characters names was so off it really made listening to the book quite difficult. Not sure I am up for another book in this series.

Not the best in the series
I found this story so hard to get into due to the sing songy narrator. She didn’t even seem able to consistently keep the same accents for characters, at one point the lead character took on a Welsh lilt then reverted back to Irish.
Story was okay but not as riveting as other instalments. Don’t want to ruin the ending other than to say “WTF?!”

Great story
Loved another instalment of DSI McGuire but not a big fan of the narrator. Her reading of the dialogues is fantastic but her reading of the narrative is often too soft and musing which gets quite annoying after a while.
