Publisher's Summary

The gripping new crime novel in the Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus series from New York Times best-selling author Faye Kellerman.
It has been almost a year since Greenbury's last murder. Detective Peter Decker has enjoyed the slower pace of his new job with the upstate police department. Then he receives a phone call from his captain.
A male body has been found in the local woods. It appears to be a suicide - single shot to the head, gun by his side - but until the coroner makes the final determination, Decker and his partner, Tyler McAdams, must treat the scene as a suspicious crime.
Identifying the body takes Decker and McAdams into the indecipherable upper echelons of mathematics at Kneed Loft College - a sphere of scheming academics, hidden cyphers and, most dangerous of all, a realm of underworld crime where even the most conscientious students can become cold and calculating.
It will take all of Decker's wits and McAdams' brains to penetrate enigmatic formulas and codes to solve a dark, twisted tale created by depraved masterminds.

stumbling to the end of a very boring murder investigation

If you want to read a word by word conversation between two detectives as they stagger their way through an investigation stumbling from clue to clue and boringly, inevitably stumble onto the killer then read this book. There are no twists or turns. The reader makes it even more cumbersome to listen to. This story is like a template of a homicide investigation with only the thoughts and boring words of the detectives revealed to the reader. What a dreadful book

My Take

I enjoyed the story in the beginning but got totally bored as it continued. Way too much going back and forth between characters without the story developing. Could have done a better job by removing about 1/3 Of the content.

Not what I'd call gripping.

The story was a bit rambling and I felt myself not caring 'who dunnit' but the most annoying thing was the narrator, he made Rina in particular an even more irritating character than she is already.
