Story
Red Square, 1985. The naked body of a young man is left outside the walls of the Kremlin: frozen solid - like marble to the touch - and missing the little finger from his right hand. A week later Alex Marston, the headstrong 15-year-old daughter of the British ambassador, disappears. Army intelligence officer Tom Fox, posted to Moscow to keep him from telling the truth to a government committee, is asked to help find her. It's a shot at redemption. But Russia is reluctant to give up the worst of her secrets.

Story
Conrad de Lancey has seen enough of evil: the shadow of fear on the faces of innocents; the sudden lull before the slaughter begins. Franco's bloody insurrection taught this Englishman all about hell. Arriving in his mother's country, the now Nazi Germany, Conrad is sick at heart. Even Berlin—infamous haven of decadence—salutes fascism. Himmler's black-shirted troops rule the city, and every German arm bears a Swastika. But does every German heart belong to Hitler?

But as Vine's off-the-books investigation begins to reveal the shocking truth, he realizes there's much more at stake than one man's life.

Publisher's Summary
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Nightfall Berlin by Jack Grimwood, read by Daniel Weyman.
In 1986, news that East-West nuclear-arms negotiations are taking place lead many to believe the Cold War may finally be thawing.
For British intelligence officer Major Tom Fox, however, it is business as usual.
Ordered to arrange the smooth repatriation of a defector, Fox is smuggled into East Berlin. But it soon becomes clear that there is more to this than an old man wishing to return home to die - a fact cruelly confirmed when Fox's mission is fatally compromised.
Trapped in East Berlin, hunted by an army of Stasi agents and wanted for murder by those on both sides of the Wall, Fox must somehow elude capture and get out alive.
But to do so he must discover who sabotaged his mission and why....

doesn't know when the story is over really
Like so many authors just beginning, they think the essence of excellence lies in a convoluted plot; it doesn't; it lies in the quality of the characters. if you don't warm to a character, you don't care what happens to them, and therefore you won't like a book. I warmed to none of these characters. Antiheroes a very alienating, I think more authors need to come to grips with that reality. it seemed to take Michael Connelly about 15 years to come to realise that the secret is in the story, that is a simple story well told. Using a characters that you don't necessarily warm to; but who are redeemable in your eyes. This author, though close, needs to learn that simple rule.
