The Master story teller strikes again.
- By carol on 27-05-2023
Publisher's Summary
When editor Susan Ryeland is given the tattered manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has little idea it will change her life. She's worked with the revered crime writer for years, and his detective, Atticus Pund, is renowned for solving crimes in the sleepy English villages of the 1950s.
As Susan knows only too well, vintage crime sells handsomely. It's just a shame that it means dealing with an author like Alan Conway....
But Conway's latest tale of murder at Pye Hall is not quite what it seems. Yes, there are dead bodies and a host of intriguing suspects, but hidden in the pages of the manuscript there lies another story: a tale written between the very words on the page, telling of real-life jealousy, greed, ruthless ambition and murder.
From Sunday Times best seller Anthony Horowitz comes Magpie Murders, his deliciously dark take on the vintage crime novel, brought bang up to date with a fiendish modern twist.
Read by Samantha Bond and Allan Corduner.

Utter Genius
One murder mystery, a delightful homage to Agatha Christie, acts as a cosy comfort blanket surrounding another murder mystery, which is clever and wonderfully self-aware. The combination is an absolute delight.

this was OK but not great. the male reader was very good but mixed up his accents a few times and there were a couple of inconsistencies in the narrative.

A really good read!
I really enjoyed this book. It is a story within a story and both kept me throughly entertained. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes “who dunnits” and especially those who are Agatha Christie fans. It borrows a huge amount from Christie but there is a very valid reason for this which becomes evident. A great read!

A mystery within a mystery
Loved this story. Anthony Horowitz comes up with incredibly original stories and I love his work. The narration is extremely good by the two narrators and it kept me intrigued until the end.
Highly recommend for those who love a great detective story.
