Publisher's Summary

In the most extraordinary journey Ann Rule has ever undertaken, America's master of true crime has spent more than two decades researching the story of the Green River Killer, who murdered more than 49 young women.

Green River, Running Red is a harrowing account of a modern monster, a killer who walked among us undetected. It is also the story of his quarry - of who these young women were and who they might have become. A chilling look at the darkest side of human nature, this is the most important and most personal audiobook of Ann Rule's long career.

Dull

Long, dull, and very bad story telling. I struggle to even describe how terrible the story telling is.

another good ann rule

lots of info regarding families and the victims, sometimes hard to keep up with names but important as to be respectful of the victims and making them individuals and not just numbers

A lot of pointless information

Would you try another book written by Ann Rule or narrated by Barbara Caruso?

No

Has Green River, Running Red put you off other books in this genre?

No

Would you listen to another book narrated by Barbara Caruso?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Whole chapters dedicated to the life of a victim is just plain boring and irrelevant to the story. I want to know about the crime, the case and how he was caught. Sure, this was all in there but having to skip through irrelevant victims life stories was annoying. Made the experience unpleasant.

An Engaging, In-Depth and Unflinching Account

Ann Rule writes with intelligence and compassion about the victims, their families and the police investigation. The backgrounds she gives on the victims and the Green River Killer himself and their respective upbringings is detailed and well researched. A gruesome but interesting read.

Narrator makes for a fascinating account

In a just world, Gary Ridgway would've been caught many years earlier. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Barbara Caruso does a great job narrating, but there is some fluff that could've been omitted. In any case, a shocking, yet fascinating account of one of America's most prolific serial killers.

Boring

80 percent of the book is description of victims’ biographies up to grandparents, almost feels like author ran out of things to write. Only interesting bit is at the end after killer was arrested. Not enough focus on what police was doing to catch the killer, instead overlong biographies again. Real disappointment as Ted Bundy book was
brilliant.

Great listen

The narrators voice was perfect for this book and that means everything when you have to listen to it for over 12hours!!!!!

I’ve read the book many years ago so it was great to hear it again. Anne always does a wonderful job in capturing all the details and doing real justice to the memories of the victims. Thoroughly recommend this book 👍🏽

An amazing story told over more than two decades

Ann Rule is truly the Queen of True Crime Writing! This story was told with the utmost sensitivity to the victims (& their families); by detailing victimologies, and giving us a greater sense of why, and how these poor women ended up becoming chosen by Gary Ridgeway in his brutal reign of terror.

➡️ (NB/ and this is *NOT* rambling on about unnecessary details, as one insensitive reviewer summed up their review… ?!)
Hot Tip: if you’re looking for gore, rent a horror movie.

If you’re interested in sophisticated TrueCrime, then this is *definitely* for you!

This story was all over the place

There wasn't a proper flow to the story telling, it was all over the place.

Inconsistent. Not edited very well.

The story itself is fascinating. But some parts really aren't necessary, like biographies of grandparents of victims; also some info on parents of victims could have been summarised better. Seems the writer sensationalises the story a lot without needing to.
