Publisher's Summary

Margot Lewis is the agony aunt for The Cambridge Examiner. Her advice column, Dear Amy, gets all kinds of letters - but none like the one she's just received: 'Dear Amy, I don't know where I am. I've been kidnapped and am being held prisoner by a strange man. I'm afraid he'll kill me. Please help me soon, Bethan Avery.'

Bethan Avery has been missing for nearly two decades. This is surely some cruel hoax. But as more letters arrive, they contain information that was never made public. How is this happening? Answering this question will cost Margot everything....

Excellent, not to be missed,

Moving and memorable story which evolves with intrigue. The characters are very real. you are constantly provoked into wanting to know what will happen next.
Narrated with perfect empathy for the story. Brilliant and unique, I loved it.

Another of Helen Callaghan's Greats

Dear Amy was one of those novels that will genuinely make you stop in confusion at the atrocity of the plot twist. I'm always skeptical of novels with unreliable narrators, but this one was done wonderfully. The level of thrill with a violent paedophile in the midst, a missing girl, and another one that vanished years earlier, sets a tone early on, for a novel that is both gritty and refreshing in its honesty.
The narration is done perfectly - one of my favourites so far. All of the speakers carry out the voices with such convincing clarity, and it contributes so greatly to the story itself.
Margo, the protagonist, is full of secrets, however her honesty toward the reader is endearing and understandable. I enjoyed experiencing the story through her eyes.
Overall, as with all of Callaghan's books that I've read, I would definitely read again, and would highly recommend to anybody who wants an 'easy-to-consume' psychological thriller.

Not as good as I'd hoped

I found this story predictable and a little ridiculous. It was well written but the main character is so infuriating it was very hard to enjoy.

Excellent story that holds the reader captive until the end

A who dunnit story but not in any traditional sense. Set in modern day Cambridge the story hooks you in from the start. As the plotlines reveal themselves the reader can guess how the story unfurls ahead of any reveals. But why.... wait until the end!

Excellent read!

Thank you Helen Baxendale, at last a reading so sympathetic, so empathetic, so right and so very well done. I am in awe of your talent and skill. I loved every moment of this book and was engaged and immersed in the story from start to finish. Looking for more from this author.

Good ending, but happy to get there

There was just something unbelievable about the plot line, until you got to the ending. Even then, I probably wouldn't recommend to a friend.

Brilliant Book...

Really enjoyed this book, although it was disturbing & sad. Good plot twist to the story line. Would recommend, but could be upsetting to some people.

Easy to listen to

Storyline became a little predictable but was narrated well. The love story just wasn’t required but now seems to be an inclusion in all books of this genre.
