So, when the bones of a woman with a hole in her skull are discovered behind a derelict cottage, she immediately assumes the worst. Rallying her team, Lauren is flooded with a strange sense of relief when the bones turn out to be almost twenty years old, not a recent victim. Kipp Brown, successful businessman and compulsive gambler, is on his worst run of luck yet. Taking his teenage son, Mungo, to a football match should have given him a welcome respite – if only for a few hours. But it’s at the stadium where his nightmare begins.
Within minutes of arriving at the game, Mungo suddenly disappears and Kipp receives a terrifying message: someone has his child. And, to get him back alive, Kipp will have to pay.
Roy Grace is brought in to investigate what seems to be a straightforward case of kidnapping. But, very soon, Grace finds himself entering a dark, criminal underbelly of the city, where the rules are different and nothing is what it seems . . .
Although the Roy Grace novels can be listened to in any order, Dead if You Don't is the fourteenth title in the bestselling series. Discover more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Dead at First Sight and Find Them Dead.

Would have been twice as good if half as long
Every profession or job has its own brand of tedium. Yes, Peter James no doubt captures the reality of police procedures. In minute detail.
That very detail was as mind-numbingly boring for me as a reader as it may be for the police.
I bought this book because I had read his latest book. What a disappointment.

Twists and turns....
This started a bit slow for me but I am glad I hung in...had me riveted and keen to return to it at every opportunity. Satisfying to the end ..like a good cigar each third was enjoyable and riveting to the last draw!
