Publisher's Summary

Stuart MacBride's number one best-selling crime series opens with this award-winning debut.

DS Logan McRae and the police in Aberdeen hunt a child killer who stalks the frozen streets.

Winter in Aberdeen: murder, mayhem and terrible weather...

It's DS Logan McRae's first day back on the job after a year off on the sick, and it couldn't get much worse. Three-year-old David Reid's body is discovered in a ditch: strangled, mutilated and a long time dead. And he's only the first. There's a serial killer stalking the Granite City, and the local media are baying for blood.

Soon the dead are piling up in the morgue almost as fast as the snow on the streets, and Logan knows time is running out. More children are going missing. More are going to die. And if Logan isn't careful, he could end up joining them.

Gruesome, sad, disturbing, laugh out loud bits too

Logan, what a brilliant man Mr MacBride has dragged into my world. Believable (just!) characters, extremely distressing in parts, tearful moments along with laugh out loud moments, all wrapped up in a cracker of a book that spat me out at the end bedraggled and wanting more, (maybe with just a few less gruesome, grim and wretched bits in it)
Steve Worsley's narration is magic, his voices brought the characters to life. Great job Mr Worsley.

New series

I stumbled across this book and I am glad I did.

Well written with lots of twists and turns , relationships forming between the characters and some messy crime scenes. Loved it.

Great narration by Steve Worsley . The accents are really bearable and he brings life to the characters.

Onto the next one. Great job.
Cheers

Enjoyed it

This is an interesting detective book. Nothing too twisty but makes you guessing who'd done it until the end. Not as intriguing as some detective books but very enjoyable.

Bloody brilliant. Great story and characters.

I enjoyed every minute, but raising a four year old girl made me shake with fear at times.

Fantastic narration of an old favourite

Not for the faint hearted! Ripping story, black humour at its finest - CSI SVU style gore interspersed with Orwellian observations of the horrors of suburban poverty.

Yikes!

A bit darker than I usually read but exciting and fast paced. I couldn’t stop listening. I like the main character and will listen to more by this author.

A great listen

This is my first Stuart MacBride book and most definitely won’t be the last.
You will find yourself engaged with the characters and storyline from the first chapter.
There is the occasional profanity, used only when necessary though. You will also notice yourself grinning at times, despite the difficult subject.
The narration, by Steve Worsley, is excellent, adding to the overall enjoyment of the book.
I highly recommend this book.
