Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff, a book for those who want relief from always starting and never being done.

Jon Acuff, sought-after speaker and consultant, is the friend who always gives you great advice. With his self-deprecating humor and charm, he has won over hundreds of thousands of followers who come to him for both encouragement and a kick in the pants. Now, after showing you how to reboot your career in his New York Times best seller Do Over, Acuff shows chronic starters how to actually finish their goals in an age of bottomless distractions and endless opportunities.

Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

Drawing on his popular 30 Days of Hustle course, Acuff teaches listeners to short-circuit perfectionism and make it through to the end of a task. Whether it's by "choosing what to bomb" or "cutting a goal in half", he shows listeners how to move past "the day after perfect", get focused, and - finally - finish.

No bullsh@#

I found this book so useful and applicable to every aspect of my life. John uses humour and everyday experiences to get his point across. He is to the point and has the tone of an all round good guy. Reccomend this for people who want to make changes but just need that kick up the butt.

Fantastic Strategies, Super Useful! 😍

Loved this audiobook. Some great strategies and practical tactics help you get things done and avoid the paralysis of perfectionism. Author has some funny lines but I feel like he maybe tries a little too hard to be funny too often as I found myself drifting off during some of the stories. Awesome listen all round though! :)

Pretty solid read.

No airy fairy wafting, well defined steps, and realistic visions of where to go next. More on maintaining discipline would have been appreciated, but some of it was a solid kick up the back side to get going.

I’m going to Finish

I see Jon has a Start Book. I am sure that’s brilliant too. But thankfully I’m a good starter and have plenty of goals. But for the one I’m working on now. Jon’s book has been wonderful in helping me Finish. I’m not there yet. But beating currently perfectionism and I’m looking forward to getting that feeling of Finished.

Best self-help book I ever read

I read this book in 24 hrs. I'm ADHD and have NEVER done that before. It's not boring, it's funny. It's got a ton of "duh! why didn't I think of that" advice. Perfect for perfectionists looking to finally get stuff done. Will be re-listening to this to help it all sink in and keen to check out his other books.

So interesting

Not only was it well read to us, it was funny and beyond enlightening as to why I’m a chronic starter.

A bit goofy but decent content

There's stages of the book where I was more or less rolling my eyes because the Narration sort of just rambled and went beyond being light-hearted and just became silly.
Pretty basic concept of just doing something and not validating the readily available excuses you make for yourself. Good job of providing examples and information.

Motivating, insightful, funny

This book is a game changer for me! Easy to listen to but challenging in a way that brings necessary change. It's the first book I've finished in quite some time and I have already purchased Soundtracks so I can keep learning from Jon. Highly Recommended.
