Written with her trademark deadpan humour, Urzila's memoir is full of great stories about both the big things in life and the little things. Urzila's accidental beginning in stand-up has led to an incredibly successful career in comedy, with regular gigs on television as well as sell-out shows in comedy festivals across New Zealand and Australia. But life hasn't always been a bundle of laughs. Urzila talks candidly about her childhood with a great family, apart from her abusive dad, and about growing up in South Africa.

Story
It’s 2006, and terror scaremongering in the media has rattled the residents of sleepy, suburban Dunlop Crescent. When a Maori family moves into number 14, the local cranks assume they are Middle Eastern terrorists hell-bent on destroying the Australian way of life. Rumour has it that they plan to turn their house to face Mecca. This sets off an extraordinary chain of events that embroils the entire neighbourhood as well as cynical media figures, bumbling antiterrorist police and a gang of white supremacists with a radical plan to wake up the country and ‘preserve Australian values’.

Publisher's Summary
One of Australia’s favourite and most multitalented entertainers provides hilarious and honest life advice in this candid collection of cautionary tales.
Kitty Flanagan has been locked in an industrial freezer in Western Australia and insulted about the size of her lady parts in Singapore and borne witness to the world’s most successful wife swap in suburban Sydney. It’s these valuable lessons from The University of Life that have taught her so many things, including the fact that cliches like ‘The University of Life’ are reeeally annoying.
In these funny, true stories, Kitty provides advice you didn’t even know you needed. Useful tips on how not to get murdered while hitchhiking, how to break up with someone the wrong way and the right way, why it’s important to keep your top on while waitressing and why women between the ages of 37 and 42 should be banned from Internet dating.
Bridge Burning and Other Hobbies is a collection of laugh-out-loud, cautionary tales from one of Australia’s favourite comedians.

Loved this. So funny with Kitty Flanagan herself reading. Listened to it while doing my excruciatingly dull physio stretches and made them much easier to do.

This is Kitty at her finest!
This as a good book to read, but a great one to listen to. Hearing Kitty recite her experiences, life's lessons and those odd moments that seem to come her way was sheer delight. She's funny in that dry way we've seen her do and this book is full of it. Hearing her tell her stories, feels like you're having a catch up in the kitchen over a cuppa. Great fun and easy to listen to.

Great laugh during a time we could all use a good laugh.
Love Kitty’s perspective of life and her unique way of taking something so simple and turning into a funny witty commentary. Very down to earth and I can relate to a lot of her stories and life experiences ie fairy bread, mum made party dresses and dads quirky antics.
