The Rise and Fall of H&H Bagels takes you on a journey that starts with the fulfillment of the American Dream and ends in a contested, five-year bankruptcy. This is the outrageous, true story of a man who defied the odds and became an American legend, and then defied logic and the law by dismantling his beloved empire.
The story of H&H Bagels is not only the story of the rise and fall of a thriving American business; it is a story of intrigue, economics, corruption, and resiliency, told with humor from the perspective of the one man who lived through it all - its national business manager and right hand to the man at the top of the H&H empire, Helmer Toro.

This was a fascinating look into what one man can do to overtake, build up and destroy a business.
A very interesting listen. Quick and entertaining.
It's hard to believe that people can get away with this kind of unethical behavior, but we see time and time again that is the case.

Sad Story of Corruption
This is a sad story. Helmer Toro is despicable if this story is accurate. All of the people that believed in him that were let down should come forward to corroborate this book. It is not the company or the delicious bagels that were upsetting. It was the man who had his insurance taken from him with no warning so he couldn't receive his cancer treatment. It was all the paycheck to paycheck workers that stayed until the end thinking that Helmer was working to save them. If this account is factual, Helmer Toro should be a full time inmate at Ryker Island and not just a 'weekend warrior'.
Dennis St. John did a good job narrating this material.
