Publisher's Summary

"I've started horses since I was 12 years old and have been bit, kicked, bucked off and run over. I've tried every physical means to contain my horse in an effort to keep from getting myself killed. I started to realize that things would come much easier for me once I learned why a horse does what he does. This method works well for me because of the kinship that develops between horse and rider."
—Buck Brannaman

In The Faraway Horses, Buck Brannaman shares his renowned methods for horse training and provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into Robert Redford's movie The Horse Whisperer, for which he was the technical adviser.

Critic Reviews

"Buck Brannaman is part of a lineage of skilled horsemen, and for the horses he works with, it is about trust and understanding, not submission." (Robert Redford)

A good listen

A very interesting listen to a start of a man that I’ve admired for a long time. I would recommend listening to it.

Not just for horse lovers

What a wonderful book. Buck is a people whisperer too but still very relatable. Thank you audible for making this title available.

A wonderful book for horse lovers

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. Cleverly written with stories to inspire, entertain, and full your heart. If you're a natural horsemanship person or enjoy horse training in general, this book is worth a listen.

Bit traumatic

I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. The stories of child abuse (of Buck) were horrific to hear. Equally the treatment and ‘training’ of horses by the other people in the book was nothing other than animal abuse. Very distressing to listen to, no matter how truthful or real.
The narrator was perfect however with his southern American drawl.

Excellent

Really loved this one. Being a horse person who loves to connect with the horses on another level made me appreciate Buck's story.

Not just for horse people

A fabulous story of struggle and redemption that easily apply to human to human relationships as is the case with horse and human.

A great story

Very enjoyable book to listen to, both for the story and the narration. I could listen to Buck Brannaman talk all day long, so I was a little disappointed that he wasn't narrating his book but the man who did, absolutely did him justice. He too has a calming voice and captured a bit of Buck's style of communication that showed enough similarity to be authentic but not so much that it seemed like he was trying to impersonate him. Really enjoyed everything about this audiobook.

A staple in my library

This book is on regular circulation in my audio library. Each time I listen to it, I learn something more and become that bit more of a better person. That's what Buck does best. Not only makes horses better, but those around him also.
