Publisher's Summary

The decision to publish the book has been very difficult, and taken with heavy hearts... My reason for writing it is simple: to give an account of the truth...

Writing this memoir has entailed recording some very personal, intimate and emotional aspects of our lives. Sharing these with strangers does not come easily to me, but if I hadn't done so I would not have felt the book gave as full a picture as it is possible for me to give.

As with every action we have taken over the last four years, it ultimately boils down to whether what we are doing could help us to find Madeleine. When the answer to that question is yes, or even possibly, our family can cope with anything... nothing is more important to us than finding our little girl.

Gerry McCann says: "It is a sad fact that not a single police force anywhere is proactively looking forMadeleine (as is the case for many other missing children). I am sure this book will re-energize the search for our daughter and the public will get behind the Find Madeleine campaign once again. It is simply unacceptable that the authorities could give up on Madeleine - especially without a single review of the case having been carried out. Our daughter, and whoever took her, are out there. We need your help to find them."

A heartbreaking memoir

This memoir must have been brutal for Kate McCann to write. It's very open and honest and it is hard not to feel feel her pain and frustration for herself, family and friends. It also highlights her love and determination to keep searching for Madeleine and her desire for the twins to grow up as happy and well adjusted children.
Really is worth a listen.

Oh! Such a Sad & Tragic Story.

My heart bleeds for Kate & Gerry McCann. What a truly shocking story they have had to endure & no doubt still are. The amazing work they are doing to try to find Madeleine will have saved so many other abducted chikdren.
I will pray that they find her.
The narration was exceptional.

A sad, tragic story

A very sad sad affair for all involved. There has been many who have so cruelly and unfairly criticised the family at the heart of this painful story. Ignorance has no place here. This is a well written account of facts. I hope we find out what really did happen on that fateful night, 3 May 2007. Wherever you are out there Madeleine - I hope you feel no pain.

Gripping and honest

it's hard to imagine how the McCann family survived the abduction of their daughter, but to then have to deal with the rumour and innuendo whipped up by the incompetent Portuguese police it's next level distressing. this book has helped me understand what happened. Mr heart breaks for the McCann family.

Very moving account of a tragic event

I was moved to tears by this mothers story. I had heard things in the media of course but this story tells the heart of what happened and the author is very honest. It comes across that she has opened her heart and life up in this book in the hopes it will help the search for her daughter. I had a lot of mis information from the media and I felt this was an honest account of the parents perspective but it didn’t come across that the purpose of the book was to clear their name or justify things. The author tells what happened and the judgement they used at the time. I can’t find any fault with anything they have done , in hindsight it’s easy to say they shouldn’t have left the kids Etc. A very brave book. It is very very sad that some of the cultural differences and the way the investigation worked in Portugal may have prevented Madeline being found sooner. You can feel the anguish of the family as they tell the story. And the added frustration of the accusations they were involved or were negligent it’s very sad. The media can have such a positive role in finding missing children but it can be so damaging too and take the story away from what matters - the safety of the children. One thing that really struck me was that the author acknowledges awareness of how much media attention Madeline’s disappearance gained and that there were other children who did not have that kind of attention. It’s must be a very hard thing to be in the middle of your own family nightmare and still recognise others suffering too and that the other missing children are precious And need to be found too. I admire the way the author has used their position of being known in the media to shine the light on all missing children. I was very moved and felt I knew a piece of the authors heart after reading. I pray Madeline is found and for all the missing children and their families I hope this book will help the search for all lost children. I really am glad the author shared this story
