Publisher's Summary

A revealing memoir and empowering manifesto - a voice for generations.

Rose McGowan was born in one cult and came of age in another more visible cult: Hollywood.

In a strange world where she was continually on display, stardom soon became a personal nightmare of constant exposure and sexualisation. Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. The Hollywood machine packaged her as a sexualized bombshell, hijacking her image and identity and marketing them for profit.

Hollywood expected Rose to be silent and cooperative and to stay the path. Instead, she rebelled and asserted her true identity and voice. She reemerged unscripted, courageous, victorious, angry, smart, fierce, unapologetic, controversial, and real as f*ck.

Brave is her raw, honest, and poignant memoir/manifesto - a no-holds-barred, pull-no-punches account of the rise of a millennial icon, fearless activist, and unstoppable force for change who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry, dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be Brave.

Includes two original songs by Rose McGowan.

Raw. Confronting. Empowering. Brave.

Rose McGowan has a very interesting story. A reminder that we each have our own history, and ability to choose to stand up for what we believe in. I recommend this book to anyone who has an opinion.

Simply Fantastic.

An eye opening novel that makes you reflect and question. Rose has such an interesting story, which is at time heartbreaking, but also as a woman I connect with her. Her music that is included is also great. This novel has made me question how I view “stars” and Hollywood.

Brilliant. Defiant. Thought Provoking.

From the first chapter I was captivated and I could not put this book away. Such a raw, honest and emotional story with a powerful message to boot. Rose's personal narration of the book makes the experience so much more richer and intimate an experience, and Rose's instinctive nature to question how and why things work and thrive or fail in this world in a pick apart and disect then put back together like a jigsaw puzzle manner type outlook towards life is fascinating. Combined that with her brutal as hell honesty and razor sharp wit and you have yourself a truely and deeply inspiring, powerful book that has proven already to resonate with both females and males alike so much so that it is the core factor behind the whole #MeToo movent (which has since grown legs of its own and has taken off) which has set off a ripple effect that spread global. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is up to challenging their views and values in this world, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has suffered from assault, severe trauma, sexual abuse or neglect of any kind, or if you simply find yourself questioning the ways of the world and your place is in it- then go ahead and buy this book. Challenge your mind and enjoy the journey along the way. If you don't like it, swap the book for something else. Just ask yourself one question- what have you got to loose?...

Loved it!!

From someone who has been a huge fan of Rose since I was a young girl watching her indie films, to now hearing about her experience during that time, and with Hollywood was quite surreal. She gives an honest and brutal insight of a world that was so alluring to so many people but also really disturbing and messed up. I respect her so much for writing this book and telling it like it is. It is amazing and there is a lot of awareness that I will take with me. Thank you Rose

Probably should have called the book f**ked up

I have never verbally said what the fuck so many times reading or listening to someone's story. If all of this is true, then her life truly has been f**ked up.
Rose's story was told rather angrily at times, which I understand her experiences would make her angry, but it made listening hard because there was so much negativity behind her voice.

If you can make it through the first half of the story then the second part is a lot more engaging. I had to come back to this book three times before finishing it. Once eventually getting through it, I thought it was worth it.

There's definitely a huge amount of trigger warnings needed for during the story though as she has a lot of traumatic experiences she goes into a lot of detail for.

Confronting

An insight and alternative perspective on celebrity, Hollywood and pop culture. A bit confronting at times but the realness of the stories and expression really important. The ending got a little preachy, maybe more applicable to a Hollywood audience. Enjoyed this listen overall
