Publisher's Summary

Rich in magic and adventure, Michael J. Sullivan’s soaring fantasy novels are masterworks of heroism, love, and sacrifice. Now, in the New York Times best-selling Age of War, the epic battle between humankind and the cruel godlike beings who once ruled them finally ignites in all its fury.

The alliance of humans and renegade Fhrey is fragile - and about to be tested as never before. Persephone keeps the human clans from turning on one another through her iron will and a compassionate heart. The arrogant Fhrey are barely held in check by their leader, Nyphron, who seeks to advance his own nefarious agenda through a loveless marriage that will result in the betrayal of the person Persephone loves most: Raithe, the God Killer.

As the Fhrey overlords marshal their army and sorcerers to crush the rebellion, old loyalties will be challenged while fresh conspiracies will threaten to undo all that Persephone has accomplished. In the darkest hour, when hope is all but lost, new heroes will rise...but at what terrible cost?

Well done but so grim

This was a good audiobook. Performance was great as always. The world building continues to grow and become more fascinating. I thought this was stronger than the previous installment and I want to give it 4 or 5 stars. It probably deserves at least 4 stars.

The thing is, it gets grim in places. It isn't uniformly depressing but just be prepared that it gets very sad. The heaviness doesn't really work for me, maybe because I've just finished a couple of other fairly heavy/downbeat novels. But for those who don't mind that, I would recommend.

Loving the story but I’m still mad

Honestly a solid 5 star review this story is excellent, I love the characters and the plot and the narrator
The female characters are written so well, it’s everything I felt wheel of time was missing,

*spoiler alert past this point*
That being said, I’m so annoyed about the end, I wasn’t ready for that to happen to my man man and with zero closure
I’m 2/3 way through the 4th book and I’m still so frustrated about it - if you know you know, if you don’t… well hopefully I didn’t make it obvious but I did say spoiler alert so that’s on you really.

They really wrong the best character of the book and the way it was drawn out was soooo much worse, I felt like I was there living it, you know it’s a great book when it disrupts your daily life after you’ve finished

Great story, narration let's win still

In stark contrast to book 2, this one I could barely put down. It was fun, paced perfectly, and the dialogue seemed to improve quite a lot suddenly.
Book 3 was easily the best of the series now that I've finished all

Great story,

I really like this series, it has action, intrigue and was even able to surprise me from time to time. My only dislike is that there is too much romance and the like. An attribute forced into so many other good novels; everyone has to be partnered up and fall in love. It gets old after a while.

Wow

I thought the last book was fantastic but this one has eclipsed even that. I found it very moving, very emotional. So many times it made me angry, sad and even to cry. I have read books that made me sad but this one brought out depths of sadness and tears that only great writing can ever really do. The battles are vivid as are the machinations of people. I truly cannot recommend this series highly enough. I found this author by taking up a free book so thank you both to audible and the author. I also must add that the narrator does a brilliant job executing the different voices and reading with great depth of feeling. All round a wonderful book full of warmth, rare emotion and a fantastic tale to boot. Listen you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent, but so sad

These books create an amazing world, but keep making me cry. Such great characters, makes it a blessing and a curse!

the siege is on and it's a good one!

It's all-out war and our most beloved characters are sorely tested - you'll laugh and you'll cry but maybe do more of the latter! There are more heartbreaking moments (hint "even now") and as a reader, you'll wonder why our favorite mystic has to continue to take such a beating. This series is GREAT - super writing and narration- onto book 4!
