Story
When life drowns you in lemons, to hell with making lemonade. I wanted to burn the whole world. But eighteen months from the day my life was torn apart, I’m tired of the anger. Tired of the nightmares. Tired of putting one foot in front of the other just trying to survive. Three months on a high country sheep station in the middle of nowhere is precisely the reboot I need. A chance to break free. To breathe again. To find a way forward.

Story
Between running a garage full of beefed-up gear-head mechanics and bailing my idiot brother out of trouble every other week, the last thing I have time for is a relationship. I’ve tried it too many times, and the ridiculous reasons I always find to end it have become a running joke around the garage. But I’ve learned my lesson. No. More. Boyfriends. I don’t care how many times Porter falls asleep drunk in my bed or how cute he looks covered in oil smears while I teach him how to fix up the vintage car he has rusting away in his garage; I’m not going to fall for him.

Publisher's Summary
David Fisher has lived by the rules all his life. Born to a Mennonite family, he obeyed his father and took over the family farm, married, and had two children. Now with both his kids in college and his wife deceased, he runs his farm alone and without joy, counting off the days of a life half-lived.
Christie Landon, graphic designer, Manhattanite, and fierce gay party boy, needs a change. Now 30, he figures it's time to grow up and think about his future. When his best friend overdoses, Christie resolves to take a break from the city. He heads to a small house in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to rest, recoup, and reflect.
But life in the country is boring despite glimpses of the hunky silver fox next door. When Christie's creativity latches onto cooking, he decides to approach his widower neighbor with a plan to share meals and grocery expenses. David agrees, and soon the odd couple finds they really enjoy spending time together.
Christie challenges the boundaries of David's closed world and brings out feelings he buried long ago. If he can break free of the past, he might find a second chance at happiness.

- Wide Eyes, Big Ears!

Two gentle souls find each other - I had a big smile on my face for most of this book!
A Mennonite farmer and young widower with two grown-up children, David Fisher lives a life of quiet desperation, fending off advances from widows in the area. When a New Yorker, Christie Landon, inherits the property next door, the two men form a tender friendship and David gets a new lease on life. Despite the one traumatic episode, this is a beautiful story - Eli Easton has a way of writing characters and situations that tug at your heartstrings and David’s lonely existence, tethered to the farm and his deeply religious community, dreaming of exotic places he reads about in National Geographic, was deeply moving. I wondered if I’d like Christie at first, he seemed like a typical clubber, but he had such a big brave and generous heart. Will Tulin’s warm, sympathetic audio narration matches the tone of the book perfectly. A huge favourite!
