Publisher's Summary

Born in 1894, Facey lived the rough frontier life of a sheep farmer, survived the gore of Gallipoli, raised a family through the Depression and spent 60 years with his beloved wife, Evelyn. Despite enduring hardships we can barely imagine today, Facey always saw his life as a "fortunate" one. A true classic of Australian literature, his simply written autobiography is an inspiration. It is the story of a life lived to the full - the extraordinary journey of an ordinary man.

I felt like I was there.

What a great book. I really was engrossed in how someone so unlucky could feel so fortunate. It actually all made sense.

Unfortunately the narrator did not quite get it right with the pronunciation of Western Australian town names.

Extraordinary!

One of the most wonderful, inspiring, extraordinary, true stories you will ever read. A reminder to be truly grateful and not take anything for granted. Albert Facey’s strength to endure WW1 and some of the toughest years in Australian history but then to refer to his life as ‘fortunate’ is just remarkable. Highly recommended, MUST read.

A story of such determination

Any additional comments?

A great story of someone rising above the odds and making the most of every opportunity. I was disappointed that the pronunciation of a number of the towns in WA was incorrect, especially the main town Narrogin. This took away from the audio experience.

A fortunate life or a fortunate attitude to life

I have read this book previously, but not for many years. Having it read to me by Roger Cardwell has made the experience even better. A beautiful, simply told story of an extraordinary life

Adaptability and resilience conquers all

Loved it from start to end. The story invites the reader to see into the life experience of a truly remarkable character who faces seemingly insurmountable troubles yet comes through with integrity, hope and inspirational persistence.
